Patient Participation Group

We have set up an online patient participation group.  More information is available by contacting the practice by email or from our reception staff.

The key roles of the group are:-

1. Create and improve two-way information between patients, the Practice and the community it serves.

2. Provide an avenue for patients' input in the way facillites and services are planned.

3. Provide constructive two-way feedback on patient needs, concerns and interests.

4. Support the Practice in good health promotions, preventative medicine and health literacy.

5. Collect patient opinions and experiences to help the practice evaluate services.

6. To communicate to the practice community information about the practice.

Our Patient Participation Group Membership

All registered patients are welcome to join the online PPG.  The practice will email every now and then to inform patients of practice news and ask questions relating to patient issues.  We will ask your opinions and your feedback on these issues.

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

Our second topic for discussion with the group was A&E attendances during surgery hours.

After carrying out an audit for one month on all A&E attendences it was found that some patients choose to attend A&E during times when the surgery is open. 

This is costly to the NHS and we decided to ask the Patient Group why they thought patients went to A&E for minor illness and how we could educate patients as to when A&E is appropriate.  We also looked at how we can improve the service we provide to ensure patients can speak to either our doctors or nurses for advice instead of attending the hospital.

Unfortunatley we only had one member of the group respond to the discussion. 

One of the questions raised was patients not being able to get appointments with the doctor.  After following up the audit we found that in nearly all cases the patient attending A&E did not contact the surgery before choosing to go to the hospital.

We also found that in most cases the medical reason for attending would have been able to have been dealt with by the practice team.

There did not appear to be any age factors in attendance.

Other GP practices in the area will be looking at this topic and it will be further discussed in local practice group meetings in the future.
