The new HPV vaccine has been developed to protect against the commonest course of cervical cancer.
The new HPV vaccine programme has be running succesfully since September 2008. The vaccine is offered to girls between 12 and 13 (school year 8). A catch up programme is also running to ensure all girls upto 18 years will have been offered the vaccine by April 2010.
Girls registered to a practice in Derbyshire will be given the vaccine at their surgery.
The vaccine is part of a course of 3 the first two are given one month apart and the final dose is given six months later.
