Clinics and Services

blood samplesBLOOD TESTS
There are phlebotomy clinics held at Creswell and Whitwell surgeries. If you are having a fasting test i.e. for cholesterol, please do not eat or drink from 10pm the night before the test. You can have sips of water on the morning of the test. If you are diabetic, please request the earliest available appointment and bring something to eat with you.

WOMENS HEALTH
Ante-natal and post natal care is available at the surgery. Advice on all forms of family planning including hormone and contraceptive implants and contraceptive injections is available. For emergency contraception, you need to see a doctor or nurse as soon as possible, and not more than 72 hours after having unprotected sex.

Cervical Screening (Smear Tests) is recommended for all women aged between 25 and 65 years. Current guidelines recommend 3 yearly screening between 25 and 50 years and 5 yearly between 50 and 65 years. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse for this screening. Breast Screening is recommended for all women aged between 50 and 65 years every 3 years. You will be sent an appointment to attend a screening clinic for you mammogram.


chdCHRONIC CONDITIONS
We will regularly monitor your care and help to improve the way you manage your condition yourself for such chronic conditions as COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Appointments can be booked with the Practice Nurses. It would help if you could bring your inhalers with you to clinics and details of home monitoring results, along with any new medication you may have been given at hospital etc.


FLU VACCINATIONS
These are available from mid-September each year. Patients over the age of 65 and those with certain chronic disease are entitled to a free vaccination. Arrangements can be made for the housebound to have vaccinations at home. Please contact the surgery for further information.


PNEUMOCCAL VACCINATIONS
We advise all our patients over the age of 65 to have these vaccinations which help to protect against pneumococcal infection which can cause diseases such as pneumonia, septicaemia and meningitis.

We are asked to record all our patients smoking status on our computer. We advise and support all patients not to smoke. Free local support is available form North Derbyshire Stop Smoking
